Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1958 (formerly known as Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine).  In 2020, it was approved as a jointly built university by the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, the Ministry of Education, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2017 and 2022, it continuously entered the national "Double First Class" construction university sequence.
